Does anyone have a recording device to recommend that I could use for a lecture and play back quickly with?

Google returned 61 hits when I searched on "variable speed tape players." You might try doing this or something similar to find a device suitable to your purposes. In my search, I found an excellent solution for application with my collection of audio books: a free add-on to the free WinAmp3 pgm. The add-on, called PaceMaker, allows the user to change the playback speed of any CD in the computer's CD drive. This is just one of its feature. For my purposes, it works beautifully and you certainly cannot beat the price. (Note: I'm a Wintel user. Sorry I don't have any info re the Apple side of things.)
