"What Buddhists have realized through their mystical experience of nature has now been rediscovered through the experiments and mathematical theories of modern science." Fritjof Capra, The Tao of Physics

PBS is airing a special on October 28th about String Theory.. also known as the Elegant Universe... or Theory of Everything.

Thought some of you might find it of interest.

After reading the webpage on the show, I think I'll have to PR a book I have on the subject before watching the show. I didn't think much of the webpage.

Thanks again.

-- Me thinking of my buddies with PHds in Chaos Theory.

I'm more interested in anything they have to say about unifying field theory. I caught a bit of a CBC program called Ideas and they dealing with the topic.

Check out: http://www.sy231theory.com/Superstring_Theory.html

String Theory begins where chaos theory and quantum mechanics leave off. Also known as the Theory of Everything, another name for string theory is the Unified Field Theory (see: http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0%2C%2Csid9_gci554508%2C00.html and http://www.tomarken.com/content/rev/articles/2003/unifiedtheory.shtml)

... that's where Einstein was stuck.

It looks like the show (and the book), The Elegant Universe might provide some interesting food for thought. I plan to watch the show tonight and order the book as well.

Robert

I can't watch it tonight, but I'll tape it for later.

I'm so far away from real science now, but I like to take a dip now an then.

The Elegant Universe was a great book about quantum mechanics and relativity. I will try to watch the show tonight too.

Shoot -
The show is to be continued ... but didn't say when.
Fascinating though.
I'll bet Brian Greene's book is near the top of the sales rank over at Amazon today!!

(Yep - just checked ... it's at #20!!!)

I plan to order the book as well, if there are any left.
