A little creativity and imagination can do a lot for calming the mind:
Have two thoughts (objects, awareness shifts, whatever) and then focus your mind on what’s between those thoughts.
For me, it works best if the first thought is on my left side and the second is on my right. The place between those thoughts has no thoughts, it’s quiet.

You can even go further (literally): Stand up, have your two thoughts (big thoughts, at least as big as you are) and then step into the space between them, bring your whole body to this calm place.

In this way, a calm mind becomes more a place than a state. And places you can re-visit easily. And with each visit, you get to know the place better.

For myself, this is the easiest way to „gently, ever so gently guide it [my attention] back“ to quietness and the present moment.

Enjoy this little gimmick and let me know if you had any success with it.
