I'm wondering what kind of pens do people use and where can you get some. I tried the Prismacolor markers, but they bleed way too much. Also what kinda paper do some of you use? Thanks.

Sanford has Liquid Expresso pens that are nice but they come in only 5 colors (green, pink, purple, black, and something else).

I have used the Zig Memory System pens. They do not bleed, have sharp tips, but only 5 colors. Got mine at Super Target.

I use colored pencils. They're easy to store, and you can do shading effects... no bleeding. I saw some colored pencil sets in the store the other day with erasers on them, too.

Just thought of something!

Whatever happened to those ballpoint pens that had different colored inks in it? You know, the simple ones had like 4 colors, but the bigger ones had like 10? It was one of those clicking pens.

I just realized how great those would be for mindmaps because you wouldn't have to pick up and put down different pens.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I use tracing paper or sketch pads (found in art departments, they are large spiral bound pads).

I use the fat crayola markers or colored pencils.

Mind maps are more effective with color, but even with monochromatic coloring they are still more effective than traditional notes.

As mentioned in another post, the school I attended for 10 months did all the lectures in mind-map format. Usually only a couple different colors per lecture, those were done on the large newsprint pads.

Gel Pens are good for mind mapping. They're a bit expensive, but they are worth it. As for the paper, I use either art sketch pad paper, butcher's paper, or --gasp--typing paper.

I use a Rotring Drawing Pen with a permanent black ink (won't bleed all over the page when I use felt tips over it). Its a really fine (0.35mm) pen - quite expensive but worth it. I generally use it to do the text and drawings/symbols and then add colour as I go around the mind map. I normally just use laser/inkjet A4 paper - it seems OK to me and cheap (offset the pen!) and is easy to file away for later revision.

Ramon: Try toy stores or art stores for the multi-colour ballpoints - 'serious' stationers don't seem to stock them.
