Is it advisable to PhotoRead test preparation books, i.e., Princeton Review or Kaplan books for GMAT, GREs, etc.?

My concern is that PR would skew the results of the sample tests included in the books. The books have several sample tests along with answer keys and detailed explainations for the answers.

Hence the dilemma: if you PR the whole book, you are exposing your other than conscious mind to the answers, so whatever you score on the tests, it wouldn't be an accurate reflection of your true test taking abilities. It's like peaking at the answers ahead of time.

thanks,
Publius

Clip the pages with the answers together and photoread. It might mean you miss some questions while photoreading because they are part of the pages clipped together but that way you can test yourself without feeling that you have skewed the test.

It's helpful if the answers are at the end of the book. You just rubber band that part shut for the photoreading and test taking portion (you have to remove the rubber band to cheat or look up the answer too soon )

I would say yes on photoreading the reference material.

I took the Professional Engineer exam this past Friday and photoread several of the reference materials that I took into the exam and worked very few practice problems.

I did not have time to activate all of the materials (2 of the books I PR were 1,000 in length) but I think the previewing step in conjuction with the PR made finding information easier in the exam.

If you have mastered activation, I this it would help you that much more. That is my weak area right now...
Of couse, I am still trying to master this...

well... there is no guarentee that you'll get 100% on all the tests that the answers are revealed. IF your purpose wasn't to cheat on it, I'm sure it's fine.

I missed some on the REA tests after PRing the book twice. Go figure.
