Hiw to describe a BLIP? When I do the photoread of a book, I see something like a "speed breaker or bump" between two parallel dividing lines. Hope I won't develop squint eyes after few books!

That's one way of describing it.

Relax your gaze no need to squint, we're trying to broaden the vision not narrow it.

Yes by me they seem ghost like sometimes too. To check if you're crossing your eyes have a look at some stereograms.

We are aiming for parallel vision http://www.vision3d.com/3views.html excellent diagrams here.

Tips for ways to see them are at the bottom of that page.

If you're looking for a site with stereograms this one has a decent collection at a nice size. http://www.eyetricks.com/3dstereo.htm

If viewing them on screen is difficult print some out.

Number one rule for photoreading... play with it. Use a relaxed gaze and if you cannot see the blip page use the X technique. It works just as well and using that consistently you'll probably gain a steady blip page a lot sooner. In fact if you find yourself crossing your eyes, I recommend you leave the blip page for a while and concentrate on just relaxing your gaze so that you have a soft focus with a broad peripheral vision so that you can notice both pages at once.

Alex

At first I struggled, not with the blip, just with the relaxed gaze.

I'm sure anybody whose been used to staring intently at individual words for years would find it hard to suddenly do the opposite.

My eyes kept refocusing and it was difficult keeping them relaxed, which became frustrating.

However, I've stuck with it andnow I've aced the relaxed gaze.

I've just photoread an 800 page book before I go to bed.Not once did I refocus. In fact I felt totally comfortable and I actually enjoyed being totally relaxed while making my way through the book.

I reckon I've aced the relaxed gaze

Like Alex said use the stereograms, they really help. For 23 years they have frustrated me but using the technique in the PRWMS book I can now do them, in fact I love them.PS: That link you gave Alex has some beautiful stereograms, thanks.

So just stick with it, get through your frustration and stay chilled.

hi all,
tks for your help, but as I'm new at this bear with me pls...

I think I've got the soft gaze down okay but I have a question ...for the 1st stage..'Prepare' I state my purpose then use the tangerine and start reading, but in the 2nd stage I just peruse the book for trigger words (relaxed alertness), review, by 3rd stage I'm suppose to photoread by using the same technique as in 1st stage...it's a bit confusing pls elaborate if possible...

I see the BLIP regularly. But it has the text and readable! Is it ok or it has to be blurred?

shahab,

The tangerine technique is a way of focusing your attention and avoiding the mind wandering off purpose. Ideally use it whenever you are about to read. Previewing, photoreading, activating and rapid reading.

nathanv1179,

Yes it's usually the case that the text within the blip page is readable whilst the rest is blurred. Avoid reading it though, noticing that too much is one of the things that makes the blip page disappear.

Do any of you wear glasses when you PhotoRead especially progressive lens?

I have a difficult time seeing the blip page when I use my glasses. When I don't, I can see the blip but then question whether I'm really seeing the words.

Any thoughts or direction? Yes, I do resort to using the X technique. Also, without glasses I can see those pesky pictures in those stereopictures. With glasses on I struggle to see the shape.

Hi

The choice of wearing glasses for the blip is an individual one. I personally choose not to most of the time nowadays, and if they're bothering you, then by all means leave them off for the PR stage.

Having said that, there are people who PR perfectly well with glasses on. Choose what works for you.
