Hi,
Am wondering if I am direct learning to improve my abilities in a specific area, say communication skills, is it better to:
a) specify separate goals for each book I choose
(eg. for my 5 books, book 1 could be on listening, so stated purpose of photoreading that book would be: "to improve my ability to listen mindfully to what is spoken and unspoken so that I might get the whole message", book 2 could be speaking, so stated purpose of photoreading that book could be: "to be able to communicate clearly, eloquently, and confidently in stressful situations at work" and so on, for each of my 5 books),
or
b) just to specify the same specific but overall goal for each of the 5 books as "to improve my communication skills in my workplace so that I will confidently be able to get my ideas across to colleagues and customers",
or is it better to,
c) specify the same generic major goal for all 5 books as "to improve my communication skills at work",
????
Would really appreciate an answer on this one as all seem workable but which way is better for direct learning?
I find that when I am photoreading individual books with separate, specific, and unique goals for each of those books, things are clearer for me and I am much more focussed (whether I choose to activate that particular book or not later).
For direct learning, I find that if I just use a generic goal like, "to improve communication skills", I am not sure if my inner mind has been given adequate direction to do its work of direct learning.
Anyone understand what I am saying?

For Direct Learning you find one goal and select at least 5 books that would cover the serve the goal. PhotoRead the lot and no manual activation. Just watch what happens the next 30 days. Naturally your goal needs to be more specific than improve my communication skills since you probably will improve it. Just be a whole lot more difficult to notice results.

why thirty days? Does it mean I need to photoread selected 5 books for 30 days?

So how much more specific? Which one of the 3 sample goal statements I have provided is better?
Again, should I set a different goal for each of the 5 books or just a specific overall goal for all 5 books?

Thanks for any feedback again.

Alex

None of the above they are all too general. What do you want to improve? How will you know you have made an improvement. Answer that and you have your goal.

I'm not getting it: could someone give me an eg of a direct learning goal that is more specific than what I have worded in my 3 egs?
Also, when you say watch what happens for the next 30 days, does it mean I should photoread the 5 books for 30 days?

See page 137 of the PhotoReading book. Check out the whole chapter since it explains exactly what you are supposed to do.

Hi Alex,
There is no mention of watching what happens for 30 days, nor eg. of specific goals for direct learning (what constitutes a behavior, what level of specificity?) in that entire chapter (nor in the course, from what i can remember).
Would still appreciate some clarification on these qns.

You'll have to answer my question before I can possibly answer yours. You've given me nothing to work with.

What do you want to achieve with direct learning and how will you know when you have it?

Nothing to work with? Did you read my initial post with the stated goals?

That's the point GOALS ...
For a Direct Learning project you need ONE Specific Habit or skill you would like to acquire.

I'm not making the decision for you.

What's YOURGOAL?
