What about if you have a denture in your upper mouth...how can the tongue touch the roof of your mouth?

If I had to wear dentures, couldn't I just take them out when I want to practice SFC?

Love, John

The tongue just touches the roof of the mouth behind the teeth. I find it a case of lifting the tongue. Saying touch the roof of your mouth gives it a destination so I don't think it's necessary to take the dentures out.

I think lifting your tongue prevents you from breathing though your mouth as relax your jaw drops, It at least helps keep the mouth shut Anyone else notice that?

In general, we want to put our tongue to the roof of our mouth to make a circuit between the Conception Vessel and Governing Vessel. These are the meridians that run up and down the midline of the front and back of our head and torso, respectively. Putting the tongue to the roof will help the enegy flow better between the two.

I'd suggest doing the exercises with and without the dentures a couple of times and see which, if any, feels better to you.

As for the position Master Lin says to have the tongue touch the roof of the mouth. Is some material it is fine to have just the tip touching, but I recall (but not where) I heard that as you progress Master Lin would like you to have greater contact.

Now is it the position of the tongue or the contact that is important? For this one I consider the self-demonstration of using sword fingers to draw circles on our own hand. Then doing the same thing through the table. Then I think of how one can use qigong to do distance healing. Then finally that qi healing is energy - information - signal - prayer - love healing.

I would think that as a total novice you can direct qi through a table and across several inches of open air, then the denture will pose no great barrier to the movement of qi.

You are perfection.

Aloha e from Rome,

No need to take your dentures off with your shoes , just place your tongue as referenced above - just behind the teeth, and then forget about it.

Chunyi does talk about different results when holding the tongue at the middle, back, and middle without touching.

I don't recall Chunyi mentioning greater contact of the tongue being important, but then again I'm not there to listen to him everyday either. Of course it gets pretty cold up there in Canada, and Iam2 may have froze off a couple brain cells -who knows. All you need to do is place the tongue at the beginning and don't bother with it again -it will take care of itself.

Much Love, Shawn
