Dear Shawn,
Would it be okay to just eat the seeds after they are boiled, and not drink the water? The taste of the water is not the greatest. I know its like medicine, but if you have any suggestions to make it taste better I would really appreciate it.
Thanks again,

Ajanta

On the same subject that is black sesame seeds. Is it important to skim off the floating seeds before heating? I have so many that float that it is very diffcult to do. Are there any toxins or something?

Thanks

I am also interested to hear if it is important to drink the tea. It is so dark, it must stain your teeth over time.

I am neither a coffee or a tea drinking, I never acquired the taste for them. Although some teas smell marvelous.

My wife, who is a real tea drinking, does say that the black sesame tea is strong. At which I just chuckle.

I always add a little honey to my black sesame tea. I also never add three teaspoons for a single mug. I usually use one to two teaspoons; tending towards one and a half. Partly because after the seeds swell up, you have a lot of seeds to chew up and wash down.

As a note on the strength, I've noticed that the longer you boil the seeds the stronger they get.... don't forget the pot when it's boiling, because boy oh boy does it get black.

So:
Yes, you can eat the seeds, and Master Lin suggests you do.

For lighter tea, use fewer teas and don't over boil. I would think it is better to enjoy the experience and slowly work into the stronger tea.... if that's how it progresses for you. (sounds like good, better, best)

AS for staining the teeth, I haven't noticed anything. I suspect that for staining, it just as important What is causing the colouring as to oppose to How rich is the colour.

I hope that helps.

You are perfection.

I think it's necessary to drink the "tea" as well as to eat the seeds. It seems to me that the best way to obtain the full benefit is by ingesting both. I do agree with you about the unpleasant taste......maybe if you hold your nose???

Aloha,

When I last talked to Master Lin about discarding the seeds about two years ago, he said one doesn't need to bother with that, since the quality of the seeds available in the US are better than they were.

Much Love, Shawn

Shawn,

I'd appreciate a clarification.....can you get the full benefits of the black sesame seeds by only drinking the "tea"? I find it difficult to choke those seeds down!
