You start out your post like a fairy tale and according to the Guiness Book of World Records that is exactly what H.Bergs World record has the credibility of.

GBoWR has good credentials but apparently even they make mistakes. According to a story from the Sacramento Bee written by Blair Anthony Robertson GBoWR had this to say basically:

<<<<<<What they probably don't know is that his resume and some of his claims are peppered with apparent exaggerations or
misstatements, more fast talking than rapid reading. In fact, "The Guinness Book of Records" has asked him not to use its name
in any of Berg's advertising, saying his exploits never should have made it into the 1990 American edition of the book and were
promptly removed from later editions, according to Mark Young, publisher of Guinness Media Inc. in New York. >>>>>

I'd like to know the story on how it ever got into one edition: improper testing, bribes to one GBoWR agent, etc. In any case, it seems this oft quote record holds no water after all.
