I believe "ain't" is a contraction for "am not." Generally, if one contracts the phrase, "I am not," the most accepted style is "I'm not," although I'm not sure why "I ain't" is frowned upon.

One thing to consider is how one would sound if one spoke like Lt. Comander Data, using no contractions at all.

Regional Dialects, even though rough for the non-native speaker,is what gives the language "character"
