I want to put my Buddhist Altar in the north. (Buddhism of Nichiren) the altar is made of wood. the main object is a paper scroll. I will have metal and glass accessories, a water offering, and can add images and items of blue colors good for the north.
my concern is that there is a lot of wood which weakens norh. I could get a gold colored altar (made of wood) but prefer the wood.
I spend considerable time here and want to make sure my plan is good feng shui!. Would someone please comment on this plan of a wood altar in the north.
Thank you!
Donna (delacy)

Aloha Delacy,

Any reason in particular you'd like to put it there? If you check your manual, you may find that NE or NW may be a better fit.

Unless it's a huge wooden monolith, it's not a big deal. You don't have to quarantine all wood object from the North, all "blue" objects in the the South, etc.

If your focus and attention is on the wooden altar, rather than what's on it-then it can be an issue.

Much Love, Shawn

Thank you for reply, Shawn. very helpful. I tend to get a little AR
But you do lead to another question. I am in the east group, so NW or NE are not positive directions for me to face.
The practice is to sit facing the altar twice a day, length of time is a personal decision. usually it is only 20 minutes, but I prefer to be there longer when possible, and on "campaigns" for as much as a couple hours or more at a time. Does it matter if I am not facing one of my good directions for this purpose? Will I be more supported by facing one of my directions?

Thanks!
d.

Instead of thinking of it as "AR", consider looking at it as "Concrete Sequential." It's a little more affirming.

From the purpose you expressed above, check out the Wisdom Facet (Level One P.26-28).

Yes, facing your personal wisdom direction (Essentials P.10), would be a good idea. You may be able to have it in the NW or NE and actually face your personal wisdom direction.

Much Love, Shawn

Shawn,

Thanks much. As always, this forum gives great information (including bonus tips like "concrete sequential" which is much much better sounding).

Best,
d.
