In the past I have had high resistence to creating (what I considered) over-sized affirmations. If I claimed "I am a millionaire*" ugly voices in my head started protesting and ridiculing. My logical self also had issues with wild claims like that.

I also felt a lot or resistence to Jack Canfield's constant 'harping on' about wanting yet more billions and wanting to be the world's most read author. Bla. Bla. Bla. Not a goal or aspiration I could get excited by.

Yesterday (new year's day) I made a key discovery. One compelling reason to have MEGA-BIG goals is to counteract all the negativity which is being thrown at us by outside forces such as media (focus on gloom and doom), economists, politicians, well-meaning friends and family (who for our 'protection' insist we scale our dreams down to 'reasonable and attainable' proportions). As stated above, I have forceful inner voices, such as my logical self, my intelligent self, my inner critic, who are enraged when I make 'unrealistic claims' about the life I would like to lead. To reiterate: we need ULTRA-SIZED goals and dreams and to visualise them several times a day to counteract the negativity we encounter daily. Thus is becomes simple maths. MEGA-DREAMS minus "small-mindedness" = YOUR ULTIMATE LIFE.

By the way, I cannot claim this nugget of reasoning to be my own. It came from Allen & Hanson, 2009, "Cash in a Flash". However I do claim this line of reasoning to be useful. It does counteract the negative/limiting input which undermines my ability to believe in my own dreams.

When others start to 'reason' with me, I shall smugly reply, it is just a question of logic and quantum physics. To depart from point A (a limited space) and get to point B (a place of limitless possibility and joy) we need to aim at point c (a mega-goal). Thus A - C = B.**

Enjoy your day. Effortlessly!

* This ultimate irony is this. I am a millionaire, I just never knew it until last year and Effortless Success. I am slowly getting more financially literate. By the simple act of moving out of our €1,000,000.00 heritage home and into another house we own (of far lesser value), I can now convert what was a liability (the house isn't an asset if I live in it) into an asset. So my net worth has been worth over a million for at least ten years and I never realised it because it was my home! My short term goal is to convert this asset into cash to reinvest in real estate while the market is so slow.

** Mathematical stupitidy. While the A - C = B formula makes sense to me, I acknowledge that it may not be an epitome of mathematical reasoning. My husband took one look at it and picked flaws all over it. Perhaps I should say B = C - A? Or express it as AB = AC - BC. I'll leave that to those who specialise mathematical reasoning. Suffice it to say, I know what I mean, and that's primarily what counts!!

But months ago you wanted to be mentored by Jack so badly..... now you disown him

I would like to be mentored by him..... I would love that. I think I would benefit hugely. I'm just not sure I want to BE quite like him. I do not resonate with his mega-sized goals. This, and other make-it-big gurus alienated me from setting larger than life goals. Now that I have a rationale - borrowed from Allen and Hansen - I can finally do as they suggest: dream extra large visions.
Jeez, Uniquesoul, it was you I thought would be taking issue with my simplified mathematical formulas that make sense to me but not mathematically. Are you losing your academic touch???

Thinking BIG is the way to go. If you are afraid of dreaming up Mega Sized goals you are denying yourself the sum of your focus and abilities. Lets make 2010 a year to remember!

Here a good example of what a mega sized or bigger goal can do French Claire, it has nothing to do with money I am just trying to give something easy to relate to. In the gym you realistically only need to do cardio 45 minutes (tredmill eliptical ect)to achieve those ripped Abs ,but a trainer will say to do cardio for a hour ir more. The reason they (or I) tell clients to go for a hour or more instead of 45 minutes is because 9 of 10 times the people doing cardio will go pass the recommended 45 mins at the intensity they should be at and when they hit 50 mins in see the hour coming up then they start slacking off taking it easy some even give up at 55 mins with 5 mins to go all because they see the hour about to end. Thats how I trick peoples minds to do their ideal cardio in gym.

Again you are contraddicting yourself.... now you want mega-goals because some other guru recommended them. So you have gone full circle out of wanting to rationalize all the teachings to the extreme. The issue with mega-goals is that you need to work hard for years to achieve them. You cannot get discouraged midway. Also some mega-goals are not achievable because too hard or inappropriate for our basic skills.

Hello French Claire, Uniquesoul, and all--

about the problem:

To depart from point A (a limited space) and get to point B (a place of limitless possibility and joy) we need to aim at point c (a mega-goal). Thus A - C = B.**

I see this as a plane geometry problem.
It is described as a problem with three points.(A-B-C)
Three points can describe a plane.

But I think there are more than one plane in our equation!
We are on one plane-the plane where Point A exists.
Point A is where we want to journey from.

We are trying to travel to a point on another plane-Point B.
Point B is our realization of the Dream, the goal.

To reach it, we aim beyond that point to
another point, on another plane even further out. Point C.
Point C is our idealization, our perfection.

I'm not any kind of math user! But I thought this looked like fun.

Warmest wishes,

I believe applying simple algebra to this type of problem does not make sense at all. We are talking about non-numerical values for A, B, C.

A is smallest value as defined by the present condition, which is not a goal.
B is hugely larger than A and of similar measuring unit as A
C is a different unit, since it a goal, not a condition like A and B. C is like "work" as it entails movement.

So no maths-like equation can be drawn to relate A, B and C. It is like you want to get from house A to house B, which are 5 miles apart. So you need 1/4 gallon of gas to drive there by car: C can be the gas. No junior high school teacher would pass you if you wrote:

A - C = B or any other equation written above.

Maybe people who do not know maths should stick to concepts based on philosophy, psychology, personal development, etc.

I agree with Linda - it's a bit of fun. Liked the idea of the 3 different planes A,B & C. Hadn't thought of that possibility at all yet. It certainly made me think..... Personally I only know 1 person who is a mathematics expert -however, I don't think he is on this forum. - The question is whether the concept of (see subject) is a simple one or can it be made as complex as one would like it to be. (possibly yes) In the latter case only .01 % (or less) of the population would be able to read and understand the formula for it. I think my wife Claire did right in trying to put the concept on a pin head. It surely is not easy to do and the result not perfect but attempting it anyway needs to be admired and enjoyed.
The main thing in my view is to understand the underlying concept - obviously a formula can help the process tremendously.

French Claire, I think you are making a simple concept very complicated. The formula is simple. Have a clearly defined goal and apply your mind to that goal, unquestioningly, until you achieve it. This A,B and C is just getting in the way of that clear goal, and clear path that you need to follow. God is uncomplicated so the Universe is uncomplicated. Why complicate it? If you need it mathematically, A - focus = B - goal.
Here is to enormous success in 2010!
