During the feeling excercise, are we supposed to label the feeling or just feel it? This sounds like a simple question. However, I may feel upset or depressed or enthused. Am I supposed to articulate that description or just feel the feeling. How should I identify or quantify or qualify the feeling in my minds eye or minds ear? Thanks, Mike

I would say that you should not label them. In fact I believe it's mentions somewhere, or it may have been just at the retreat.

A label carries a lot of judgement with it. You are trying to fully experience the feelings without the conscious mind influencing or limiting your experience.

I would think that seeing is alright. Hearing the feeling is find too, so long as your not hearing words originating in your mind.

Don't worry about it if you do some labelling or talking / describing it to yourself. It not wrong. It's just a good - better - best thing. If I find myself labelling or verbally describing, I just smile at myself and try and just feel it.

Everybody is different, and each time is not like the last. What you do with each feeling exercise is absolutely perfect... for you.

You are perfection.

Page 15 & 16 of the manual explains the exercise.

You let og of any labels, history or associations. Stick to steps 1 2 and 3 for a while, till your comforatble with really feeling the feeling. Then try the advancet Geeling Exercise from time to time.

I want to share with you an experience happened to me:
I'm a handicaped, i walk with the help of hand and leg braces, and i was with my friends having picnic outside the city, i was sitting in a large tent, then one of my friends shout "Hey! there's a snake behind you!".
After that i just realized that i was outside the tent. What happened? they told me i jumped outside the tent, without thinking. Was i affraid? Sure! but i don't remember. So, this is the power of the feeling without labeling the feeling as BAD or GOOD, just reclaim its power.
Fear to protect you, It's a GIFT.
Pain to warn you that there's something wrong.
Worry to warn you that you're thinking in the future and and not in the NOW.
Sadness, you're thinking in the past.

So every feeling has a power you have to reclaim it.I think this is the pupose of the feeling exercise.

That was so insightful! It almost like emotions aren't the problem, it's the paralyzation and labeling of emotions that makes us suffer. Emotions themselves if freely flowing give us energy and passion for life, and a movement of natural intelligence and peace.

Almost?

I can't help smiling. Emotions are not a problem. At least for me, emotions are just a message or guidance from my whole mind.

If someone feels that emotions are a problem, I would recommend that they apply the Inquiry process to that belief. I would suggest that this belief is a Trance that will limit ones ability to fully experience life.

The feeling exercise is a great method to discouver that our feelings, physical and emotional, are gifts of informations to us. They are guidance to help us live life fully. It may take a while to change from one method of relating to your feelings to this more liberating attitude, but it is well worth process.

You are perfection.

Where I can find more details on Feeling exercise?

I read Patent's book, "You Can Have It All" and found it complemented AFL course excellently as I go through course a 2nd time. But I found no references to Feeling Exercise in it.

Thanks!
Richard

The feelings exercises are in Arnold M. Patent's book The Journey, along with several other exercises.
