Ive been interested in Cantonese and Mandarin for a very long time. Im thinking about learning Mandarin. It is a tonal language, so there are four types of tones, and depending on which tone you use to say a word it has different meanings. Ive looked into tomatis and The listening program. The Listening program is too expensive, tomatis id have to find a center near me and its probably expensive too, i have the mindstim tomatis. But im also considering purchasing a perfect pitch course. I read an article that native speakers of tonal languages have perfect pitch because since birth they have needed to distinguish between tones. So maybe this is faulty logic, but if i train my ears for perfect pitch. Then a tonal language such as Mandarin may become easier.
