With a document as suspect as the Bible, at least in my opinion, I recommend researching it a bit, maybe finding a few different translations/editions. Also, researching some scholarly biblical history will benefit your understanding of the contents of the Bible. Also, I am partial to Nietzsche's oft-misunderstood thoughts about christianity and the life of Jesus, I recommend picking up a Walter Kaufmann translation of The Anti-Christ.
